About All Things Funky
All Things Funky is an exploration of Funk in all its dimensions. Dave 1 digs into every sub-genre of funky music, from the classics to Brazilian deep cuts, disco edits, weirdo psych, modern electro joints, and more. All Things Funky also dives into Funk from a broader scope, including funky graffiti handstyles, funky 70s furniture, weirdo food and even mental health. Dave 1 leaves the call lines open to discuss it all with listeners.
David “Dave 1” Macklovitch has been at the forefront of music, fashion and art scenes for almost two decades. In the early 2000s, he formed the legendary electro-funk duo Chromeo with Patrick “P-Thugg” Gemayel. Their sophomore release, Fancy Footwork (2007), became a critically acclaimed electronic music classic. In 2014, they earned their first Top 40 hit with the synth-infused, 80s-influenced song “Jealous (I Ain’t With It).” And in 2018, they got a Grammy nomination for their fifth album, Head Over Heels.
Dave 1 also works with his brother, DJ A-Trak, as a creative director and partner, founding Brooklyn-based label Fool’s Gold in 2007, the producing/DJing outfit Brother Macklovitch, and the funk and jazz-centric imprint Juliet Records, with P-Thugg and Chromeo’s management team.
Dave 1 has executive produced albums for bands like Duck Sauce and Vampire Weekend (the Grammy-winning Father of the Bride), quietly art directs projects for fellow musicians under the studio moniker Heavy Nova, and remains active in music journalism, cultural studies, interior design and mental health advocacy.
